*The North East Campus Compacts, in collaboration with the American Association of Community Colleges, invite teams of academic administrators to attend a one-day symposium to evaluate the level of service learning institutionalization on campus. The summit is an opportunity to share challenges and strategies for success with chief academic officers from other community and technical colleges, and promote the benefits of community collaboration and civic engagement.
Presenters will be Gail Robinson, Manager of Service Learning at the American Association of Community Colleges in Washington, DC, and Carol Jeandron, former Vice President of Academic Affairs at Nunez Community College in Chalmette, LA.
Topics on the agenda will include the status of service learning in community colleges nationwide; research on the effect of service learning on student learning outcomes and engagement; model programs; and strategic planning for integrating service learning and civic engagement into the curriculum. There will be time for discussion and conversation among participants.
The symposium provides an excellent opportunity to advance the field of service learning in community and technical colleges. Colleges are encouraged to send teams of least two academic leaders; one must the the institution’s chief academic officer.
