Service Learning: Building a Culture of Service
Hewitt School
45 East 75th Street
New York, NY 10021
Date: Wednesday, December 4, 2013
Time: 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM

During this interactive day, we will build knowledge and abilities to support and strengthen service learning. Key concepts to be explored include:
- Curricular Design to review best practices for increasing the understanding of service learning as a teaching pedagogy; we will explore service learning as a process that moves a unit of study from the essential questions through the acquisition of knowledge and skills, to implementing a related and meaningful idea for service
- Roles and Responsibilities within the school community that promote and strengthen a culture of service
- Aiming for Parent Participation to support teachers and service learning as a valued pedagogy
- Youth Leadership opportunities
- A Literature-Based Service Learning Approach
Do you have specific questions to advance the culture of service at your school? Add to this list, so we shape the day to meet your needs:
How can we improve our approaches through knowing the successes and struggles from other schools?
Any ideas for sharing what we learn during this day with school leadership to advance service learning as integral to our school community?
Send all questions to [email protected]. We hope to hear from you!
