New Service-Learning Grant Opportunity in Homeland Security and Disaster
Preparedness
The Institute for Global Education and Service Learning (IGESL) is please to announce a Learn and Serve Homeland Security Grant (YODA, Youth Organized for Disaster Action) for New Jersey and Pennsylvania Schools. Based on previous involvement in the Learn and Serve America Program or as a Service Learning Leader School or as a Federal Character Education grantee, you are eligible to apply for this grant. Applications are due on Wednesday, October 27, 2004 by 4:00pm.
The purpose of this program is to address homeland security and disaster response and preparedness concerns by engaging students in service-learning activities in their schools and communities. It is the goal of IGESL and it’s partners, PennSERVE and the NJ Commission on National and Community Service, to provide students with a structured learning experience that allows them to enhance academic achievement, develop workplace readiness skills, demonstrate active citizenship, and give back to their communities through service-learning while planning for and responding to health, safety, and security concerns in their schools or communities, including natural disasters, school violence, medical emergencies, or terrorist acts.
Grant information can be accessed by visiting our website at http://www.igesl.org and clicking on Homeland Security.
Please note, there are Technical Assistance calls for this grant. They are scheduled for:
