SERVE Philadelphia 2015-2016 AmeriCorps VISTA Project
Posted by City of Philadelphia on August 3, 2015
Application deadline: September 11, 2015
Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter’s Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service is accepting applications for two (2) SERVE Philadelphia 2015-2016 AmeriCorps VISTA members, to serve for a period of one year on projects designed to impact education, literacy, financial empowerment, economic development, food access, community resilience, youth engagement, and community revitalization.
Benefits include: living allowance, Segal Education Award, monthly transit pass, housing discount at The Edge, and monthly professional development.
The following November cohort positions are available:
* PowerCorpsPHL Communications Coordinator at Mayor’s Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service
PowerCorpsPHL’s goal is to place 300 young adults (18-26 year olds) who have barriers to employment in career pathway jobs or post-secondary education programs by using an AmeriCorps term of service that improves the City of Philadelphia’s sustainable infrastructure as a workforce development and skills training vehicle. The goal of this VISTA project is to build program capacity for an essential element of successful placement and retention: conveying the story of corps members’ growth and skill acquisition.
The Year Three goal is to incorporate external communications practices and internal information gathering systems into the workflow of existing staff and program procedures.
* Youth Violence Prevention Collaborative Coordinator at Mayor’s Office
The YVPC VISTA project will consist of updating and maintaining a jobs resource manual with current information. The VISTA will manage outreach/distribution opportunities, including web and app presence. Furthermore, the VISTA will assess utilization and improve current practices to ensure that the manual is an impactful resource to the community, including ensuring that it is useful for providers. Other key roles will be to build new community partnerships, while sustaining existing ones.
In addition, The VISTA will develop organization evaluation criteria, survey tools and a corresponding, easily understood quality rating system.
