AmeriCorps VISTA – Senior Navigator

While there are myriad programs in Philadelphia that offer support to those who are struggling under the weight of poverty, the challenge of effectively navigating the array of options, eligibility requirements, program details, or even hours of operation can be daunting and discouraging, especially given the daily stresses that poverty creates. The result is that vulnerable community members don’t know how to access the right opportunities, or they pursue opportunities that don’t fit their needs. UConnect is Drexel University’s response to this challenge. As part of the programming of the Lindy Center for Civic Engagement, UConnect is an innovative, place-based initiative whose mission is to connect neighbors – students and low-income community members – with each other and with opportunities that will improve their lives. Taking a strengths- and relationships-based approach, UConnect will offer Information, Referral and Follow-up services (IRF) for low income residents in the neighborhoods surrounding Drexel University. Drexel students will serve as volunteer Navigators, working one-on-one with community members – UConnect Members – to set goals and connect with vital community resources.
UConnect is seeking a passionate leader who embodies our mission to join our team by serving as AmeriCorps VISTA Member. In this role, you will manage and coach a diverse corps of volunteers in providing high quality service, ensuring a welcoming environment for the community and maintaining a smooth flow of office operations. In addition, you will research and document resources that address community-identified needs, building strong relationships with partner organizations. Equally important, you will collect, analyze and report on programmatic outputs and outcomes to ensure we are providing services that are helpful and effective. This is a new program and so systems, procedures, policies and structures need to be created and documented in these areas. We are looking for a highly organized person with great attention for detail, a forward-thinking person willing to take initiative, and someone willing to be flexible and adaptable in a start-up environment.
