Self-Sufficiency Coach: Motivator! Counselor! Advocate!
Help break the cycle of poverty for low income, single parent, formerly homeless families. We are looking for an organized, hardworking, multi-tasking, outcomes-driven and smart individual with a passion for making a difference, who craves variety and intensity, and who values education and accountability.
ACHIEVEability is a nonprofit organization that provides comprehensive and intensive support for families so that they can break the generational cycle of poverty, maximize their potential and achieve self-sufficiency. Education is the focus of our approach. Families at ACHIEVEability pursue college while maintaining employment, developing life skills, building credit and assets, and broadening their horizons.
Responsibilities:
• Provide case management services for a caseload of 20 – 25 participants.
• Help families create goals and map concrete steps for achieving those goals, with a focus on the areas of education, parenting, finances, employment and personal development.
• Help families make and track progress with their plans.
• Motivate families to remain engaged and compliant with ACHIEVEability’s program requirements.
• Work well with a diverse team, as well as able to take initiative and work independently.
• Facilitate and organize workshops, family enrichment activities and group meetings.
• Maintain complete and accurate records in case files and database.
• Conducts regular home visits/inspections and assist participants in maintaining home according to agency standards.
• Develop/maintain links with other professionals in the social service field and complementary programs in the city.
In the context of a structured goal plan for each family, you will work with families to do whatever it takes to help them help themselves. In the course of a week, you will work with parents to obtain financial aid, create a budget, repair credit, and learn to clean a bathroom as well as prepare case notes and facilitate workshops.
Specific tasks include the following: interview and assess prospective participants; assist participants in identifying and securing resources; conduct home visits and inspections; assist participants with developing and adhering to budgets and debt reduction plans; organize and facilitate workshops; document participant contact in the files and database; develop and maintain links with other professionals in the social service and education fields; serve as ACHIEVEability representative and ambassador in supporting effective property management.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred
• At least 3 years of case management experience
• Passion for helping families who are underserved
• Strong motivational and leadership skills
• Ability to think strategically and analytically
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Database skills.
• Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse group (staff, participants, donors and volunteers)
• Strong sense of responsibility, initiative, follow through and accountability
• Ability to successfully pass background checks (criminal, child abuse, drug test, college transcripts, college diploma)
• Valid driver’s license, auto insurance and registered vehicle available for use at work
• Ability and willingness to work evenings and on Saturdays
• Comfortable working and doing home visits in West Philadelphia
