Seeking Volunteer Mentors: Minds Matter Philadelphia

Posted by Minds Matter Philadelphia on September 23, 2025

Minds Matter Philadelphia is a local non-profit organization that supports motivated high school students who attend nearly 20 different Philadelphia High Schools as they prepare for college during their Sophomore, Junior and Senior years. MMP does this through mentorship, structured academic support, and access to fully funded academic summer programs.

We are seeking volunteer mentors for the upcoming school year! As a mentor, you will be paired with a Minds Matter student and a co-mentor, both of with whom you will meet with weekly at the Minds Matter Saturday sessions throughout the school year. At sessions, you will assist the students in working on essays, completing summer college program applications, and college/university selection. What we expect from our Mentors:

  • Able to attend Saturday sessions from noon to 2:30pm during the school year
  • Cultivate and maintain a relationship with your student
  • Act as a positive influence and a role model
  • Graduate of a four-year university
  • Background check/child abuse clearance is required.

Want to learn more? Reach out to MMP Executive Director Ashley McGrath at ashley.mcgrath@mindsmatterphilly.org to talk through any questions that you might have.

Ready to apply? Submit an application and MMP will be in touch to schedule an introductory conversation.
