C.B. Community Schools, Philadelphia, (C.B.C.S.), is a vibrant, innovative high school, serving a unique group of students who are involved with, or have been involved with, The Department of Human Services and/or Philadelphia’s Juvenile Justice System. Our high school students are youth who are under credited, have attended multiple schools, and at high risk of dropping out. Located in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia, we are an independent school that serves students through an individualized, competency-based academic program and holistic environment. C.B. Community Schools uses a School-Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and restorative practice model, based in a peace and justice framework society.
Working with talented faculty in a culture that blends strong academics and social-emotional learning, students are engaged and inspired to earn a High School Diploma through a curriculum that inspires critical thinking, independent learning, self-advocacy and develops curious contributors to society.
Position Description
We are looking for an experienced Secondary Social Studies Teacher who has a passion to teach and work with our students who benefit from caring, healing-centered school staff. The ideal candidate will create and maintain a rigorous and engaging environment for learning. This environment will be a space where students engage in deep thinking about history, social issues, and current events; where students grow in their ability to analyze and express themselves through class conversations, critical thinking and analysis, research and writing and project-based opportunities.
The candidate of choice applies a growth mindset both personally and professionally; they inspire others to do the same through optimism, flexibility and teamwork. The selected candidate should have a desire to contribute to the school community by sharing their passions and participating in school functions, professional development, field trips, and other special activities.
