Scrabble Coordinator Position, ASAP/After School Activities Partnerships
ASAP/After School Activities Partnerships is a non-profit organization with the mission to keep Philadelphia youth (K-12) safe and active when the school day ends by coordinating after school enrichment programs. Philly Plays Scrabble is ASAP’s second-largest initiative – comprised of 81 clubs in schools, libraries and community based centers across the city. Through Scrabble, teachers and volunteers complement classroom learning to develop students’ reading, vocabulary and dictionary skills. ASAP is seeking a part-time Scrabble Coordinator to manage the initiative for the coming school year.
Duties include:
– Supporting existing clubs through periodic site visits, phone calls, weekly email, and by providing Scrabble materials
– Recruiting new organizations and individuals for Philly Plays Scrabble and facilitating trainings for new chess club leaders
– Maintaining relationships with partner organizations such as the School District of Philadelphia, after school programming providers, the Free Library, etc.
– Organizing and operating regular events and tournaments for up to 200 students.
– Collecting data on club participants, events and clubs.
ASAP is a small organization, and the atmosphere is fast-paced and collaborative. We recruit colleagues who are excited about working as part of a team to affect the lives of the city’s youth. Qualifications include the following: a college degree, ability to multi-task, a detail-oriented approach, strong writing skills, and an outgoing personality. Applicants should be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. Knowledge of Scrabble is preferred. The job requires a flexible schedule—some evenings and weekends are involved.
The Scrabble Coordinator position is part-time, and salary is commensurate with experience.
