Schuylkill Acts & Impacts Summer Expedition to Inspire Watershed Action for High School Students – Mar 24

Posted by Fairmount Water Works on March 7, 2023

Schuylkill Acts & Impacts is a 6-day watershed expedition from July 9-14 that is offered to a team of twelve high school students from the five counties (Schuylkill, Berks, Montgomery, Chester, Philadelphia) in the Schuylkill River Watershed. Students will learn about different water quality impacts in the watershed, do hands-on testing, learn from and interact with environmental professionals, and will camp, kayak, and have tons of fun! This program is offered at no cost to participants.

Students camp in tents at state parks and nature preserves. Students need to bring a sleeping bag, clothes, and their personal items, but all other necessary gear, food and transportation including tents, kayaks, and life jackets will be provided.

Environmental educators from FWW, SHA, and Stroud will lead Schuylkill Acts & Impacts along with expert staff from outfitter Take It Outdoors Adventures. All Outreach & Education personnel have undergone rigorous background checks and have extensive experience in group facilitation and leadership development programs. Outfitting guides have CPR certification and Wilderness First Aid certification. The maximum instructor-to-student ratio will be 1:3.

The deadline to apply is March 24, 2023.
