School District of Philadelphia Teacher Residency Program – Nov 9

Posted by School District of Philadelphia on November 8, 2022

The School District of Philadelphia is excited to announce the launch of our seventh recruitment cycle for our Teacher Residency Program! To date, over 200 passionate and highly qualified teacher residents have joined the residency program to prepare to become full-time District teachers. Over the past six years our current and former residents have impacted thousands of Philadelphia students. The Teacher Residency Program is a great opportunity for aspiring educators, whether fresh out of college or pursuing a new direction in their career, to immerse themselves in a full-year training program that prepares them to enter the classroom.

The District’s Teacher Residency Program:

  • Trains residents with a background in Math, Science, English Language Arts, Spanish Language, and Special Education to teach in middle and secondary schools.
  • Partners with four (4) graduate-level educator preparation programs to support residents on their way to earning their PA Instructional I teaching certification, as well as credits towards a Master’s degree.
  • Provides a supportive, hands-on preparatory experience for individuals who are entering the classroom for the first time and have not previously participated in a teacher education program.

Our website is now updated with information for the 2023-24 program year, residency partners, upcoming events, FAQs and more. Our rolling admissions process begins with candidates selecting and applying to one of our four residency partners based on your interests and needs, and our partners’ websites are great starting points:

We have so much more to share and invite you to join the District for an in-person information session about the Teacher Residency Program on November 9th, 5:00 pm- 6:00 pm.  We will provide an overview of each of our partner organizations, or you can join their information sessions (dates/times above) to hear from them directly.
