School District forming Parent Networks
Posted by on October 28, 2013
Across the country, school districts are taking up the critical work of central office change. And, the School District of Philadelphia is seeking parents to represent our schools in a collaborative effort for the purpose of designing the right transformation strategy for our district so our children can succeed and parents, families, and communities can be engaged.
All children deserve a free, quality public education, and a high level of meaningful parent involvement is an important component of quality public schools. Members of Congress demonstrated their commitment to
parent involvement by strengthening policies in the reauthorized Elementary and Secondary Education Act, now the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). Because of the law’s new parent-involvement provisions, parents and principals have a tremendous opportunity to build partnerships and work together. The best way to make sure every student in our schools succeed is to build a strong partnership between families, the school, and the community.

FACE-A-Team Beliefs
Family, school, community, and the home are not isolated but are interconnected with each other and with the world at large. Successful family/parent/community involvement programs share several fundamental beliefs about parents:
• Parents want what is best for their children.
• Parents, regardless of their background or circumstances, can be key resources in their children’s education.
• All children can learn, and the focus of educators’ efforts needs to be on children’s success.
• Together, educators, families, and communities can succeed in educating children and preparing
them to lead healthy, happy, and productive lives.
• Parents must be involved in all aspects of their children’s education including its governance and decision making.
