SCHOOL/COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP GRANTS
The Pennsylvania Department of Health and Pennsylvania SAFE KIDS Coalition are pleased to announce the availability of $2500 mini-grants to school/community partnerships to improve school safety and prevent youth violence. The focus of the mini-grant is to support youth violence prevention through the implementation of Be Safe and Sound.
WHAT IS BE SAFE & SOUND?
The Be Safe & Sound campaign is an initiative of the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC). It seeks to mobilize parents, policymakers, school officials, and students to take action to prevent violence in our schools by enhancing school safety and security in communities across the nation. The goal of Be Safe and Sound is to engage and educate these audiences and to provide them with objective and expert-based school safety and security principles. A toolkit is available on CD-ROM or can be downloaded from http://www.ncpc.org/besafe.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY?
The mini-grants are open to all Pennsylvania schools who intend to partner with a local community-based organization to improve school safety and reduce youth violence.
HOW CAN YOU APPLY AND WHAT PROJECTS ARE ELIGIBLE?
Complete the attached nomination form and submit documentation of your violence prevention project. Only projects involving a substantive school/community partnership will be accepted. Examples of school/community partnerships could include, but are not limited to parent-teacher organizations or associations and school safety committees with community representation. The project must use the Be Safe & Sound School Safety and Security Toolkit: A Guide for Parents, Schools, and Communities to implement the project. The school safety survey must be used as part of the project evaluation.
MANDATORY grantee meeting will be held on March 22, 2004 to provide training.
