SCHOOL DESCRIPTION: The Kirkbride School is a neighborhood public school within the School District of Philadelphia, located in South Philadelphia. Our school community is racially, culturally and ethnically diverse, and we serve a variety of students. We are a high-achieving school and were named as one of fourteen “Peer Leader” schools of all public schools (district and charter schools) in the city of Philadelphia. In February, we were also awarded as a National Title One Distinguished School for the previous 2014-2015 school year for the second year in a row. Our student attendance rate is the fourth highest for all schools in the School District of Philadelphia–our students want to come to school, learn and work hard! We truly have some of the best students in the city!
POSITIONS SEEKING: We are currently hiring for School Climate Staff. Kirkbride is seeking (3) Student Climate Staff (formerly “Noontime Aides / NTAs”) to assist during important times of the day such as morning admit, lunch time and recess. We have added additional SCS’s this year to assist with the addition of a new recess program. SCSs will work (5) hours daily, M-F and are School District of Philadelphia employees. SCS should have strong skills working with children, demonstrate patience and professionalism, and have a desire to impact a positive school culture as a positive role model and mediator for students; good attendance and punctuality are essential. This position may be appealing to college/graduate students, or parents seeking part-time work. A high school degree (or equivalency) is required. In addition, we are seeking an SCS to serve as a “Recess Coach.” This person will be hired as an SCS (see above job description) but will focus on running our recess program. In partnership with Playworks (a socialized recess program) this person will receive training and guidance from the Playworks staff to fulfill the role of Recess Coach. In addition to the skills mentioned for the SCS position, this person should expect to be an active part of the recess program, as he/she interacts with students to facilitate group play, games and leisure activities. This position may be appealing to candidates with experience as camp counselors, youth league coaches or similar experience.
