PA scores low on school breakfast scorecard
According to the School Breakfast Scorecard, issued by the Food Research Action Center (FRAC), forty other states are more successful compared to Pennsylvania in ensuring low-income students start the school day with a healthy breakfast.
According to Public Citizens for Children and Youth (PCCY), the report shows that only 45% of low-income children who eat lunch at school are also eating breakfast. In their weekly newsletter, PCCY says that “reams of national research show children who start the day with a healthy meal are more focused and perform better in class.”
“The FRAC report should serve as a wake-up call to the state to step up its game in expanding access to healthy breakfast for its students,” PCCY said.
