School of Social Science at Institute for Advanced Study Welcomes Applications for 2021-22 Residencies
Each year, the School of Social Science at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey, invites around twenty-five scholars to be in residence for the full academic year and pursue their own research.
The theme for residencies in 2021-22 will be “Political Mobilizations and Social Movements,” but applications outside the theme are also welcomed. An interdisciplinary dialogue will be fostered and applications are strongly encouraged from scholars across the social sciences, whether or not their research corresponds to the theme.
Funding for member stipends is individually negotiated, taking into account the applicant’s base salary and the level of sabbatical and other grant support he or she can secure. In setting compensation, the school attempts to provide half the current academic base salary for all members, up to a maximum stipend of $75,000.
A completed doctorate or equivalent is required. Unless the scholar is from a country with an academic calendar that is substantially different than the one in the U.S., memberships are awarded at both the junior and senior levels for the full academic year. Scholars may be considered for a second residency if a sufficient amount of time has passed since their initial membership.
Applications must be submitted through the Institute’s online application system, which opens in June and can be found on its application page.
Deadline: November 1, 2020
