WorkReady Summer Internships are a six week summer internship program for youth who have completed grades 10 to 12. North Light will place students in jobs that will advance their career interests. The SCEP WorkReady monitor is an integral part of the program working as an assistant to the WorkReady Internships Director. The monitor will help with recruitment, enrollment and placement of youth at internships.

Once the youth are placed at their internships, the SCEP WorkReady monitor will serve as an advisor, mentor, and advocate for youth as they experience their first ‘real’ job. The monitors guide youth through pre-employment workshops, the interview process, oversee any difficulties that arise during the summer, assist youth with information on higher education, plan and facilitate weekly reflection sessions and workshops, assist the director with payroll and organize an end of program Awards Dinner

The SCEP WorkReady monitor will work a total of 250 hours at $9 per hour and thus be an hourly (non-exempt) employee. The job start date will be Tuesday, April 26.

Requirements: Program monitors should possess: 1) high maturity levels, 2) the experience and skills to appropriately monitor worksites and make recommendations to employers on worksite quality issues, and 3) the ability to effectively teach appropriate work readiness skills to youth.

Interested candidates must:

• Have completed at least two years of College or University
• Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Have exceptional communication and organizational skills
• Have basic computer literacy i.e. internet, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel
