Better Together: Restoring the American Community
A Talk by Robert Putnam
September 22nd ? Kirby Auditorium ? 7:00 P.M.
$12 (non-members), $9 (members)
Robert D. Putnam, a professor of public policy at Harvard University, who has a long and distinguished career in civic activism, reports on successful civic innovations and institutions from across the country so that we can learn and draw inspiration from them. Lewis M. Feldstein, with whom he recently co-authored Better Together: Restoring the American Community, will join him in his talk.
Across America there are individuals and groups who are re-weaving the social fabric, renewing their communities, and revitalizing our civic spirit. One of the examples Putnam will highlight is a mentoring and reading program in Philadelphia that brings together retirees and elementary school children to the benefit of both.
A book signing will follow the program and books will be available for purchase. Groups of 20 or more, $10 per person.
