Responding to the COVID-19 Pandemic – PA

Last week, Governor Wolf announced that all public K-12 Pennsylvania schools and school district run pre-k programs will be closed for the next two weeks. There is a chance that those closings will extend beyond that two-week period of time, however schools will not be required to make up the ten missed days, and the state will waive the 180-day requirement and requirements for specific number of school hours in a year.

School districts will be allowed to serve meals to qualifying students by offering drive-through or grab and go meal options. Check with your local school district about whether they are offering this service to families in your community.

The PA Department of Education has set up this website where the public can get the most up-to-date information about how the Coronavirus pandemic is affecting PA schools.

Administrators are making plans for continuing education in many districts. If you have kids in school now, it is likely that you are already receiving communication from your local district about their plans moving forward. If you have not, check with your local school district for clarity.

Our #PAPublicSchools are one of the most obvious examples of how we, as members of a community, are interconnected. We rely on administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, and staff to look out for our kids – to help them grow and learn and, hopefully, reach their full potentials. Now, we must do our part to #FlattenTheCurve. We will get through this difficult time, but it is important to stay informed and practice #SocialDistancingNow.
