Resources to Celebrate Juneteenth, Pulitzer Center
Posted by Pulitzer Center on June 23, 2026
Although Juneteenth was celebrated this past Friday, June 19, here are resources from the Pulitzer Center.
As the country also approaches its semiquincentennial this year, we are recognizing the additional significance of this holiday in the conversation around the history—and future—of American freedom and democracy. We are sharing resources that center stories of enslavement and liberation and show how the legacy of slavery intersects with contemporary global issues.
As the official education partner for The 1619 Project, in collaboration with education professionals across the country, our team develops resources and programming that highlight the lasting legacy of slavery and engage students with stories of racial justice and other global issues. If you want to stay connected to this topic and get equipped with more 1619 resources ahead of the school year, you can receive racial justice reporting and more curricular resources in your inbox every month by subscribing to the 1619 Education newsletter.
We also hope to see you at the final event from our Defining Democracy series to continue the conversation around how the lasting legacy of slavery has impacted what we know as contemporary American democracy. This final workshop will focus on the models educators in schools and communities have used to encourage civic engagement in their local communities and equip you with strategies for teaching about the history of slavery in your class or program.
