Since its founding in 1987, Need in Deed?s mission has been to work with students, teachers and community partners to prepare youth for civic responsibility and service to others. Our goal is to enable young people to become agents for change ? capable, contributing members of their community. We provide professional development services for teachers, giving them the skills and tools necessary for integrating service-learning with the academic curriculum.
Job Description
Position: Resource Development Intern
Reports to: Resource Development Coordinator
Overall responsibility: Develop database of resources for 20-25 social issues (e.g. homelessness, hunger, and violence) to be posted on newly-created Need in Deed teacher website. Site will be used by 3rd-8th grade teachers who have been trained by Need in Deed as they develop their service-learning projects.
Specific areas of responsibility:
? Identify resources related to social issues appropriate for use in 3rd-8th grade service-learning projects. Resources should include books, websites, community partners, and newspaper articles about the topic.
? Develop database of identified resources for Need in Deed teacher website.
Desirable characteristics and areas of expertise:
? Experience with or interest in teaching in public school classrooms, preferably in an urban setting;
? Experience with or interest in service-learning projects with K-12 students, preferably in an urban setting;
? Excellent research skills;
? Self-motivated (able to see tasks/projects through from start to finish; attention to detail is high priority);
? Organized (able to maintain relevant records regarding resources);
? Good written communications (able to compose basic letters, emails, documents and reports);
? Good oral communication skills (able to represent organization and its needs to possible community partners);
? Computer literate (familiarity with Macs, Word, Excel, PDF, scanning etc.).
Salary: $5000
Position start date: Monday, May 14th
Position end date: Friday, August 17th
