Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University Invites Grant Proposals for Research on Human Services Philanthropy and Organizations
Deadline: June 27, 2011
With support from the Kresge Foundation, the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University has announced a Request for Proposals on Advancing Knowledge in Human Services Philanthropy and Nonprofit Organizations.
The Advancing Knowledge initiative responds to the need to build a research community of human services scholars whose work can improve the effectiveness of human services organizations and philanthropy. The goal of the initiative is to create a group of pre-tenure scholars working in collaboration with tenured mentors and an advisory council.
Pre-tenure scholars are invited to apply for grants to fund research and for the opportunity to join a community of scholars seeking to improve the practice of human services organizations. Research proposals must focus on human services nonprofits working to assist low-income populations and must have the potential to affect the practices and philanthropic support of such nonprofits. The initiative is particularly interested in better understanding of four thematic areas of research within the field of human services organizations: organizational effectiveness, social change and impact, government and public policy, and the role of philanthropy.
Pre-tenure scholars at accredited universities and nonprofit research institutions in the United States who have received doctoral degrees within the past seven years are eligible.
Ten two-year awards of up to $25,000 per project will be awarded. Recipient scholars will work with mentors and an advisory council to produce and disseminate findings that promise to improve the practice of human services philanthropy. Recipients will also be invited to special Advancing Knowledge workshops held at the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action annual conferences in 2011 and 2012. In addition, scholars, mentors, and the program’s advisory council will collaborate to generate a “State of the Research” report on human services philanthropy.
