William T. Grant Foundation invites applications for research to reduce inequality

The William T. Grant Foundation invites applications for its Research Grants on Reducing Inequality program, which supports research studies that aim to build, test, or increase understanding of programs, policies, or practices to reduce inequality in the academic, social, behavioral, or economic outcomes of young people ages 5 to 25 in the United States, along dimensions of race, ethnicity, economic standing, language minority status, or immigrant origins.

Through the program, grants of up to $600,000 for up to three years will be awarded in support of descriptive studies that describe, explore, or explain how programs, practices, or policies reduce inequality; intervention studies that provide causal evidence on the effectiveness of programs or policies for reducing inequality; and measurement development studies that can enhance the work of researchers, practitioners, or policy makers to reduce inequality. The foundation is especially interested in research to reduce inequality in academic, social, behavioral, or economic outcomes; and research to reduce inequality along race, ethnicity, economic standing, language minority status, or immigrant origin status.

The foundation invites studies from various disciplines, fields, and methodologies and encourages investigations into various systems, including justice, housing, child welfare, mental health, and education. Proposals are encouraged from organizations that are under-represented among grantee institutions, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic-serving Institutions, Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), Alaska Native-Serving Institutions, Native Hawaiian-Serving Institutions, and Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISIs).

Applicants must be tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code to be eligible.

Letters of inquiry are due May 3, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. ET. Upon review, selected applicants will be invited to submit full proposals within eight weeks of the letter of the inquiry submission deadline. For major research grants, the total timeline from the letter of inquiry to the funding decision is generally 10 to 15 months.
