Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Assisting with the development of surveys and reviewing site-visit protocols;
• Overseeing data collection and processing (including administering surveys, coding interviews and cleaning survey data) under the direction of the senior researcher;
• Assisting the senior researcher with coordinating site visits through oral and written communication;
• Assisting with on-site interviews;
• Assisting with survey administration (under the supervision of senior staff);
• Programming statistical analyses and data cleaning using programs created by senior researchers;
• Assisting with basic quantitative data analysis;
• Producing tables summarizing data;
• Compiling literature reviews;
• Working collaboratively with the department’s administrative assistant on mass mailings of research materials and other research-related administrative tasks;
• Processing and tracking incentives;
• Assisting with report writing;
• Attending regular project team meetings; and
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in sociology, education, psychology, human development, economics, urban studies, women’s studies, child development, criminology or criminal justice.
• A minimum of one year of experience with evaluation or social science research.
• Ability to travel frequently.

Knowledge and Skill
• Knowledge of Microsoft Access and Excel and experience running queries and producing tables.
• Knowledge of at least one statistical package (such as SPSS, STATA or SAS) is strongly preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
• Sound judgment and sensitivity in working with community-based organizations, collaborative partners and program participants.
• Ability to accept direction from senior staff.
• Strong interpersonal and administrative skills.
• Ability to think creatively and work collaboratively.
• Proven track record of meeting deadlines.

Problem Solving/Decision Making
• Tasks will be assigned by the project director and project staff. These tasks are expected to be completed in a thorough, accurate and timely manner.
• The research assistant should seek out assistance when needed from the appropriate sources (research department staff, other P/PV staff, libraries, IT department, etc.)
• Decisions regarding project management, data collection, and interactions with site or other non-P/PV staff should first be cleared with the project director or, in his or her absence, another senior researcher.
