Request for Research Assistance

The Urban Affairs Coalition’s Community Economic Development Department is in the process of formulating a transformative goal around Financial Education. Imagine if every Philadelphian had at least 3 opportunities to have access to and take advantage of Financial Education or alternatively, if every Philadelphian had at least 5 hours of financial education. In order to carry the banner on this type of goal we need deep knowledge and working tools of how to maximize the engagement of low to moderate income adults and young people to acquire the knowledge and tools that financial education can make in their lives.

The CED department is seeking assistance with understanding the circumstances that can best promote engagement, what kinds of people are most likely to take advantage of financial education tools to change their decision making and money management practices and what forums work best for which people and at what stage in their lives.

We have a related and more immediate need to evaluate a hybrid peer support and education model to better understand for whom and how we can have the greatest outcomes and where this model might fit in the continuum of financial education services.

Research could be conducted by using a variety and/or multiple means including as a class project, independent research project, by a professor or affiliated research group. We welcome the opportunity to discuss where your research interests and instruction goals might overlap in addition to creating a longer term relationship with a university to take a deep dive into these issues.

For more information and to discuss possibilities, please contact Angela Goode, Director, Community Economic Development, at agoode@uac.org or 215-851-1738.
