Request for Proposals: Clay, Play, Read Literacy Installations – Dec 16
Posted by The Clay Studio on November 24, 2020
Overview
The Clay Studio seeks proposals for two public ceramic installations to be developed through community workshops at the Kensington and Cecil B. Moore branches of the Free Library of Philadelphia that build on our informal learning workshops Clay, Play, Read. These workshops, which began in a virtual format in the fall 2020, are supported by the William Penn Foundation, and feature a reading and discussion and a hands-on clay activity where the youth and caretaker collaborate on a piece in response to the story. Artists with a focus on working in community to develop mural designs and installation are encouraged to apply. The murals/installations created for both libraries are meant to serve as an interactive art installation that will continually engage the community about literacy through the lens of play and with the goal of creating equitable playspaces. The mural artist will work with the project team to facilitate community making days in the neighborhoods around each library to help inform the development of the installations. The making days will take place in the spring of 2021 with the installation of the murals to be completed by October 2021. Working primarily with the Community Engagement Manager and a literacy specialist, the general contours of the project and making days will be developed.
Application deadline: December 16, 2020
