Request for DEI Virtual Conference Proposals on Belonging, Gwynedd Mercy University – Jan 15

Posted by Gwynedd Mercy University on November 28, 2023

Gwynedd Mercy University welcomes proposals for our 4th Annual Conference on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Education Conference, being held online Monday, April 8, and Tuesday, April 9, 2024, 6-8 pm Eastern. Our 2024 conference focuses on belonging as a critical issue to ensure equity and inclusion in education. Students cannot learn effectively unless they feel a sense of belonging. Our students’ diversity can encompass multiple characteristics, such as race, color, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical ability, neurodiversity, socioeconomic status, and citizenship status, among others. Our conference focuses on strategies for helping students with such diverse characteristics feel a sense of belonging both inside and outside of their classes. In addition to instructional and co-curricular strategies that support student belonging, we welcome presentation proposals that focus on fostering the belonging of students, faculty, and staff within the broader institution. We seek presentations that are geared toward educators and administrators in PK-12 and higher education, as well as staff members who support students in these settings.

Preference will be given to proposals that meet one or more of the following themes:

  • Institutional strategies for creating belonging
  • Instructional strategies for creating belonging
  • Co-curricular strategies for creating belonging

We are soliciting proposals in both live and poster formats. Live presentations may be in either lecture or panel format, 50 minutes online in Zoom (inclusive of 10 minutes Q&A).  Poster presentations require a visual presentation that the audience can view at any time.

The proposal deadline is Monday, January 15, 2024. Decisions will be made on proposal acceptance by Monday, February 5, 2024.

Please complete the proposal form via Microsoft Forms.

If you have any questions, please contact Peggy Rosario, conference chair, at rosario.p@gmercyu.edu.
