Brookdale Foundation Announces Relatives as Parents Program Local, Regional, and State Seed Grant Initiatives
Deadline: January 11, 2007; and February 8, 2007
The Brookdale Foundation (<a href="http://www.brookdalefoundation.org/">http://www.brookdalefoundation.org/</a>) has announced the Relatives as Parents Program Local, Regional, and State Seed Grant Initiatives for the year 2007. RAPP is designed to encourage and promote the creation or expansion of services for grandparents and other relatives who have taken on the responsibility of surrogate parenting when the biological parents are unable to do so.
Local and Regional Initiatives: Up to fifteen local and three regional programs will be selected from within the United States to receive a mini-grant of $10,000 each over a two-year period, contingent on progress made during year one and potential for continuity in the future. The sponsoring organization must have 501(c)(3) or equivalent tax-exempt status. The seed grant must be matched 100 percent, either in-kind or in cash. Regional sponsors (e.g., area agencies on aging, universities, cooperative extensions, local departments on aging, counties) are eligible to apply; however, they must serve a broad geographic area and support the development of a variety of local or regional group activities. Applicants may apply for either the local or regional initiatives. (Deadline: January 11, 2007.)
Statewide Initiative: The program provides $10,000 in funding over a two-year period for up to five Public State Agencies that have demonstrated a commitment to relative caregiving activities, especially for relative caregiving families outside of the formal system. Each state has to match the seed grant 100 percent in cash or in-kind. Agencies or institutions from the following states and/or territories are eligible to apply: Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, the District of Columbia, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Puerto Rico. (Deadline: February 8, 2007.)
