Special PHENND Gathering: (COOL and Idealist) Learning the Lessons from Social Movements Mini-Summit
January 23-24, 2003
Do you think about past social change and movement building and what’s going on today? Do you draw information from historical lessons, leaders, or stories about social movements? Do you wish you had a place today to re-energize with others that share your passion for making social change and a desire to do so effectively and strategically, utilizing lessons from the past? Do you see your own work as part of a movement?
Attend the January 23-24, 2004 special Learning the Lessons from Social Movements Mini-Summit, an event co-sponsored by PHENND, COOL, Idealist.org, other national partners, and students involved in planning the March 12-14, 2004 20th annual COOL Idealist National Conference, which will include a Movement Summit track within it.
About the January event: You can come just for Friday, January 24 and participate in workshops, plenary sessions, and other participatory activities focused on drawing out relevant themes and lessons from social movements. We will feature local activists, faculty, students, and others who share their stories, ideas, and inspiration – taking place similarly to PHENND’s annual conference.
Featured workshops include:
Or come for both January 23 and 24 and join a smaller group (20-30), including planners of the COOL Idealist National Conference, for a smaller retreat-like gathering on Friday night and Saturday (January 24) also. For more information, contact Hillary Aisenstein and Ariane Hoy ([email protected]). This smaller group will also include staff from the national Campus Compact, Oxfam America, and other organizations partnering with COOL and Idealist on the Movement Summit track at the National Conference.
About the March event: You don’t have to commit now, but you may be interested in saving the date for the 20th annual COOL Idealist National Conference, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania (Penn) on March 12-14, 2004. Roughly 1,500 or more college students, campus staff, and nonprofit professionals will convene for three days including hundreds of workshops (among them 20-30 addressing Movement Summit themes).
