Philadelphia Jobs with Justice:
Regional Economic Justice Student Campaign Coordinator
About the Position
Philadelphia Area Jobs with Justice is a coalition of labor unions and student, community, and faith groups. Together, we fight for the fair treatment of workers, organizing in local communities and workplaces. A major part of the organization’s work is supporting and harnessing the work of budding student labor activists in the Delaware Valley region.
Philly JwJ is seeking a part time fall intern to coordinate students working for economic justice in the area. The goal will be to create a network of student activists that facilitates communication, resource sharing, and broad-based support for campaigns. The intern will communicate with student activists on at least three campuses in the region and organize monthly conference calls/gatherings. Tentatively called the Student Labor Action Project Council, this network will help build the regional student movement around economic justice issues and will help students win more campaigns more often. Ideally, we are seeking a candidate who can work 10-15 hours per week. The main responsibilities are to coordinate this council, but additionally will be asked to draft weekly blog posts about current campaigns/ events and jump in and support other projects in the office as needed. We are open to work arrangements that involve working from home or campus a portion of the time. This position is unpaid, but will be a great opportunity to learn about how a small non-profit runs and have your work published to support economic justice in Philadelphia.
Skills
We are looking for someone with a strong passion for economic justice, excellent writing skills and familiarity with social media platforms. Interns are encouraged to attend our annual in-depth 3-day Community Organizing Training September 20-22. More information is available here. Scholarships are
available.
