POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Red Cross Club Facilitator

The American Red Cross-Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter, in partnership with the School District of Philadelphia, offers Red Cross Clubs (RCC), which provide students in 15 high schools with opportunities to develop leadership skills, build confidence and tools to make healthy decisions, and contribute to their communities, The RCC model involves a core group of students in each high school, who, with the Teacher Advocate and Red Cross staff support, participate in a range of activities, primarily after-school, which teach HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) prevention education, disaster preparedness, first aid/CPR skills, leadership styles and techniques, and International Humanitarian Law. These students then are encouraged and guided in developing and sharing their lifesaving knowledge and skills with their classmates and others through school-wide presentations, including ?Red Cross Days?, community service projects, and other events during the school year and in the summer.

The Facilitator will help build capacity and sustainability of RCCs by providing assistance to Teacher Advocates on RCC planning and implementation. Such assistance includes training in Red Cross program areas; recruiting club members; coordinating school assemblies, presentations, other events; conducting outreach and relationship development with community organizations; and organizing community service projects. The Facilitator will also arrange or conduct, when needed, training in First Aid/CPR and HIV/AIDS and STI Prevention Education for RCC members. Major responsibilities also include maintaining weekly communication with Teacher Advocates, including regular visits to assess progress, and ongoing communication with other school faculty and principal. Bachelor?s degree from four-year college or university. Two+ years related experience, preferably including work with urban youth, public schools, and youth development or community service. Ability to work well with students, teachers, administration, and to perform multiple roles. Strongly motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a team. Ability to organize diverse groups. Experience creating and adapting lesson plans. Excellent organizational skills. A current and valid driver?s license, criminal, and child abuse clearances are required.
