Posted by on November 11, 2025
On November 5th, PHENND hosted a webinar on summer melt. Summer melt is the phenomenon in which graduating high school seniors who intend to go to college fail to do so in the first fall after graduation. This summer, the School District of Philadelphia released a report on summer melt for the classes of 2022, 2023, and 2024. Drs. Olaniyan and Holden to discuss findings from the report. In addition, PHENND shared a summer melt checklist that we developed after reaching out to area colleges for the information that they provide to incoming students. Watch to hear about the data, see the checklist and share resources and initiatives that have worked for your programs. Presenters:
- Motunrayo Olaniyan, Ph.D., Senior Research Associate, Office of Research and Evaluation, School District of Philadelphia
- Aja Holden, Ed.D., Executive Director, Office of Postsecondary Readiness, School District of Philadelphia
