Last year, Read Charlotte identified a need to equip more adults in the community to support the growth and development of students’ foundational reading skills – leading to a new literacy program, Queen City Readers. Queen City Readers targets kindergarten and first grade foundational reading skills such as phonemic awareness, encoding, decoding, and high frequency word recognition, all delivered by lightly trained volunteers supported by community-based organizations. Come learn more about their pilot of this program and the results they’ve achieved.
