Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities and Social Inequities
Posted by on October 7, 2005
On August 8-9, 2005, more than 80 distinguished researchers and practitioners convened in Alexandria, VA to set a research agenda on the role of health education in eliminating racial and ethnic health disparities. The Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) sponsored the event, “Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities and Social Inequities: Framing a Transdisciplinary Research Agenda in Health Education” Plenary sessions and panel presentations are now available at http://www.kaisernetwork.org/healthcast/sophe/08aug05
Key questions posed for discussion included: If community participation is central to the elimination of health disparities, what social ecological anchors, policies, cultures, and other contexts are essential for program success? Based on what is known, what are some ways in which to disseminate this information to researchers and engage the community in developing evidence-based interventions? What are the research gaps?
