Bread & Roses Community Fund Invites Applications for Racial and Economic Justice Fund
Deadline: June 15, 2006

The Bread & Roses Community Fund (<a href="http://breadrosesfund.org/">http://breadrosesfund.org/</a>) is a unique partnership of donors and activists committed to supporting social change in the Delaware Valley. The fund offers a range of grant programs available to a broad spectrum of organizations and individuals working for social change.

The organization’s Racial and Economic Justice Fund was created to support groups using community organizing to promote racial and economic justice at the local, state, national, and international levels. For groups applying to the fund, working toward racial and economic justice must be central to their vision, understanding of the problem, and strategy for addressing it.

Grants will range from $5,000 to $10,000. A limited number of larger grants may be awarded each year.

Applicant organizations must be located in the Delaware Valley, which includes five Pennsylvania counties (Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery) and Camden County, New Jersey. Organizations with total operating budgets of less than $150,000 are eligible to apply. Those with total budgets of more than $150,000 may apply if they have a discrete social justice project with a budget of less than $150,000 that a) needs seed money for a new activity; or b) is unlikely to meet the guidelines of other funding sources because of its goals or strategies. Organizations must be tax-exempt, have a fiscal sponsor with tax-exempt status, or be awaiting a decision by the IRS on its 501(c)(3) application. The applicant organization’s leadership must reflect the people that the organization serves.

Visit the Bread and Roses Community Foundation Web site for complete program information and application procedures.
