This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated, eager student to develop communications skills while working in a busy public relations office. The Public Relations intern assists the Public Relations Director promote the exhibits, programs, science, and key initiatives to the media, niche audiences, and the general public. The assistant will benefit from experience with a variety of writing and online research projects and from working with the Marketing, Communications and Sales team as well as other staff. This is an unpaid, part-time position with flexible hours.
Responsibilities Include
- Writing articles and posting to the Academy Blog
- Web research
- Compiling bimonthly communications report
- Compiling calendar listings and posting online
- Assist where needed with visiting press and film/photo crews
- Writing press releases
The ideal candidate should have strong writing and verbal skills; be a junior or senior studying journalism, public relations, communications or related field or a recent graduate seeking on-the-job experience; be detail-oriented, able to work independently and on deadline. Interest in museums, environmental science and nature a plus. Experience writing for college newspaper a plus.
