Public Health Regenerative Leadership Synergy (PHEARLESS) initiative invites applications
The Kresge Foundation invites applications for a new initiative to bring rising public health leaders together with community leaders to co-create sustainable collaborative solutions with the potential to advance health and well-being for all.
Supported by an investment of more than $8.5 million from Kresge, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the de Beaumont Foundation, the PHEARLESS (Public Health Regenerative Leadership Synergy) initiative will integrate regenerative leadership education and experiential learning with innovative, collaborative tools that will help public health and community leaders build the skills they need to tackle the complex issues facing their communities today.
For the 2023-24 initiative cohort, 15 four-person teams will be selected from communities nationwide. Each team will include two governmental public health leaders and two community leaders from the same jurisdiction. These leaders should all be individuals who are 1) in a position where they would benefit from additional leadership competency development and 2) support collaborative leadership efforts to improve health and well-being for all. PHEARLESS aims to support partnerships of local, state, regional, tribal, or territorial health jurisdictions that already have experience working together in the community to advance health and well-being for all.
Participants in the 12-month program will work through four modules. A culminating capstone activity, including both virtual sessions and an in-person component, and each team will receive a grant of $100,000 to support their culminating community capacity-building activities and $9,000 stipends (taxable income) for each of the two community leaders in the team.
The program defines community as any jurisdiction with a governmental public health entity. Any such jurisdiction, including rural, suburban, urban, regional, state, tribal, or territorial therefore is eligible.
For complete program guidelines and application instructions, see the Kresge Foundation website.
Deadline: July 6, 2023
