The primary focus of the Public Health Outreach Coordinator position will be to build and maintain connections with student groups on the University of Pennsylvania campus that have a health-associated mission (MERT, STAPH, GAPSA, UA, etc). Activities of this part of the job will include attending student group meetings and participating in student activities that pertain to health. The goal of this aspect of the job is to acquire a qualitative perspective by seeking opportunities to increase Student’s Health Service’s (SHS) presence among students. As such, this part of the job may require the PH Outreach Coordinator to work non-traditional hours.
In addition, a significant portion of this position’s efforts will be to support the measurement of SHS’ impact on the public health of the campus. Activities of this part of the job will include: a) providing statistical analysis of SHS-directed campus assessments (such as the Health and Wellness Survey, ACHA-NCHA, peer-benchmarking, etc), b) providing support for assessments of the impact of SHS services on the campus (such as Healthy Campus 2010, etc), c) fostering students’ understanding and use of SHS as a Public Health entity through use of various types of social media, and d) acting as a liaison between SHS and the campus community in matters relating to public health. The goal of this part of the PH Outreach Coordinator’s job is to create a quantitative picture of SHS’ impact on the health of the campus.
• BA/BS in a health-related field required.
• Proficiency in SPSS and Excel.
• Proficiency in web-design and social networking/marketing tools.
• Familiarity with educational technology, proficiency in use of electronic media including social networking.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Skills in qualitative and quantitative data collection.
• Experience conducting public health or related social science research studies is expected.
• Familiarity with conducting reviews of scientific literature and interpreting such information for a student audience preferred.
• Experience working (volunteer or paid positions) in a university setting preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Understanding of group dynamics.
