GREAT INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY
PUBLIC ART PROJECT 2004

Timeframe: Spring 2004
Minimum time commitment: 6 hours per week

The Philadelphia Print Collaborative (PPC) seeks a motivated, organized individual with experience in printmaking to serve as assistant workshop instructor in its 2004 public art project. The intern will work with youth between the ages of 10 and 18 at one of four project residency sites in Philadelphia (The Village of Arts and Humanities, Taller Puertorrique?o, Greenfield Elementary School, or Fleisher Art Memorial). The project focuses on the art of frottage, using collagraphs, with the theme of the Bill of Rights as it relates to neighborhood histories.

The intern will:

? Participate in workshop planning meetings related to the workshops (1-2 anticipated);
? Participate in preparation for the workshops, including gathering supplies and setting up the workshops space;
? Participate in all workshops at the designated site (approximately 10 2-hour sessions);
? Support the lead artist/workshop instructor in teaching the project curriculum;
? Help conduct a project assessment with the participants at the end of the residency;
? Help collect finished prints from participants;
? Maintain clear communication on a regular basis through weekly email to the PPC workshop coordinator throughout the internship.

This is an excellent opportunity for a student to gain teaching experience with youth while working with leaders in the Philadelphia arts community. Interns will also see the process of building toward a city wide public art event. This project is being carried out in collaboration with the print departments of Moore College of Art and Design, The University of the Arts, Tyler School of Art at Temple University, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and many others.

Federal Workstudy students are encouraged to apply.
