Title: Community Planning Fellow

Job Summary:
Concordia LLC is a planning and design firm specializing in community engagement in school design. Concordia will engage 100 students, parents, teachers and community residents from West Philadelphia in an eight month planning process to design the new West Philadelphia High School.

The Community Planning Fellows act as the community’s tour guide through the planning process. They will work with two primary groups – the Planning Team and the Steering Committee. The Fellows assist the Planning Team with recruiting a balanced Steering Committee, explaining the planning process to their neighbors and other community members. The Fellows guide the Steering Committee through the process itself by providing the Steering Committee with the structure, tools and resources needed to make informed and educated decisions about their community’s development.

As a neutral, third party to the community, Community Planning Fellows also bear a key research responsibility during the process, compiling a resource catalogue, which delineates all existing research and data in the community. Throughout the process, Facilitators will work with local professionals such as Geographical Information System (GIS) experts in assembling additional research components as requested by the Steering Committee

Responsibilities:
? Researching and collecting data, reports and preexisting information for building a comprehensive resources directory for the neighborhood;
? Recruiting and organizing Steering Committee participants;
? Planning, coordinating and facilitating Steering Committee meetings;
? Training and developing community leadership within the Steering Committee;
? Organizing and meeting with Steering Committee subcommittees;
? Supporting the Steering Committee in communicating with general public and on-going recruitment efforts;
? Documenting the planning process and creating monthly reports on the Steering Committee?s progress; and
? Other duties as assigned

Duration: 12 months

Participant Expectations: Attend 7 Steering Committee meetings
Average (32) hours per month of research, data gathering, follow-ups, networking and communications
