Elementary and Middle School Teachers
Part-Time (6-8 hours per week)
21st Century SKILLS College Afterschool Program
at Columbus Elementary or Smedley Middle School
Monday, 4-5 (staff meeting); Tuesday-Thursday 4-6;*
Start Date: September 20, 2005 (Program to start October 17, 2005)
Position Summary: Support the mission of CEF by developing and implementing academic lessons in reading, math and language arts for low performing students that build upon program?s enrichment activities. Must be able to manage aides and volunteers to support learning and model social development skills. Must respect children.
Primary Responsibilities: Teachers will provide individual or small group instruction in core academic subjects, adapt tutoring to the needs of each student, reinforce core skills (study skills, time management, conflict resolution, etc.) and provide coaching, counseling or support to encourage students. Implement afterschool curriculum while developing positive relationships with participants. Develop an Achievement Plan for each student and intervene as necessary to discuss student progress or issues with day-school teachers and parents. Provide feedback at team meetings to improve student and program outcomes. Observe and share knowledge of other student and/or school issues that may impact success of the program with CEF staff and program personnel.
Education and Experience
? Must meet requirements for Chester Upland School District teaching position
? Provide clearances for background check (criminal history and child abuse clearance records)
? Bachelor?s degree
? Computer literacy a plus
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
? Excellent teaching skills
? Ability to work well with and relate to students of all backgrounds
? Ability to work collaboratively with other program staff
? Ability to manage small groups (10-12) of students, other supporting staff and adult volunteers
? Enjoys working with children and/or adolescents
? Skilled in subject areas as required
? Excellent communicator
? Consistent and dependable
