American Academy of Pediatrics Invites Proposals for Community-Based Health Initiatives

The mission of the American Academy of Pediatrics is to achieve optimal physical, mental, and social health, and well-being for all infants, children, adolescents, and young adults.

To that end, it is inviting applications for its Community Access to Child Health (CATCH) Planning and Implementation Grants. The CATCH Program is a national initiative of AAP that supports the efforts of pediatricians to inform and lead innovative, community-based initiatives that increase children’s access to optimal health and well-being. Through the program, grants up to $10,000 are awarded annually on a competitive basis to pediatricians who plan to build broad-based community partnerships that address unmet child health needs. Two types of grants will be awarded through the program:

Planning Grants — Up to $10,000 will be awarded biannually to individual pediatricians or fellowship trainees for the development of new, innovative, community-based initiatives that increase children’s access to optimal health or well-being.

Implementation Grants — Up to $10,000 will be awarded to individual pediatricians or fellowship trainees for the implementation of an initiative or to pilot a new, innovative, community-based initiative that increases children’s access to optimal health or well-being.

Activities should lead to a program that demonstrates creativity or innovation in the designated community; predominantly serves a population of children with unmet health needs or with demonstrated health disparities; develops strong, broad-based community partnerships; and assesses children’s health or well-being and/or increases access to needed health services not otherwise available.

Eligible applicants include general pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists, pediatric surgical subspecialists, and fellowship trainees from the United States or its territories and Canada. National and chapter AAP memberships must be current before grant funds can be disbursed.
