Property Management Internship Program
NFTE + Pennsylvania Apartment Association — East (PAA)

Brief Background
In 2014, the Pennsylvania Apartment Association and the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship in Philadelphia created a place-based experience for NFTE alumni who competed in our semi-business plan competition. To date, NFTE has secured 11 internships with leading property management companies located in Philadelphia (PA), Abington (PA), Jenkintown (PA), Wilmington (DE), and New Castle (DE).

Relationship to Entrepreneurship
Through NFTE, entrepreneurship education is a tool that equips young people to not only start businesses and create jobs, but also to be opportunity-focused, flexible employees ready to fill opportunities.

As an example, at Evergreen Apartment Group, NFTE Alum Bret Zicarelli (from Newark High School) started with a two day “class” on the fundamentals of investing in real estate, abc’s of property management, and the structure and systems for the company. After his initial training, Bret spent one week working in the Corporate Office, one week working in the leasing and applicant management part of operations, one week working in the area of tenant management, and one week working with the accounting department.

When Bret was asked about his internship experience and whether Evergreen Apartment Group would be beneficial to his future career, Brett explained, “at most companies, you don’t get the chance to meet the owners, the ability to interact with the owners, to see their dedication, and to see what it takes to run a successful business. This is an extremely valuable opportunity. In my future career, this will not only help me be a better employee, but going forward if I ever want to become an entrepreneur, the Wolfgangs serve as a prime example of good business leaders”.

2016 Property Management Internship (PMP)

NFTE is in a position to provide a pipeline of our dynamic NFTE students to property managers and apartment owners in the Philadelphia Metro region via PAA. PMP attracts high school seniors and pre-college students, 18 years and older, who have completed the NFTE program with a grade of B or better. By partnering with an outstanding property management company, NFTE alums have the opportunity to learn about the many opportunities in the field of property management.

General Internship Responsibilities

Property management companies are seeking energetic young people who can bring fresh and new perspectives on how they operate or can improve their businesses. NFTE Interns will have the following general responsibilities:
