Shared Insight Fund Invites Proposals for Projects to Improve Philanthropy
DEADLINE: OCTOBER 15, 2014
The Fund for Shared Insight is a new multiyear collaboration of seven funders that aims to pool financial and other resources to make grants to improve philanthropy. Partners include the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the Ford Foundation, Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, the JPB Foundation, Liquidnet, the Rita Allen Foundation, and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
The fund will award grants of one to three years in duration to nonprofit organizations in support of efforts to encourage and incorporate feedback from the people they are seeking to help; understand the connection between feedback and better results; foster more openness between and among foundations and grantees; and share what social sector organizations learn. Nonprofit organizations may apply for grants in three categories: practice, research, and support.
1) Practice grants will support projects that advance the practice of using feedback loops to hear from those the organization seeks to help.
2) Research grants will be awarded in support of projects that aim to identify how feedback data may be best collected and whether there may be some perceptual and/or experience data that can serve as leading indicators of change.
3) Support grants are designed to bolster efforts to increase foundation openness in service of effectiveness.
Individual Requests for Proposals are available for each category.
To be eligible, applicants must be considered tax-exempt nonprofit organizations under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. In addition, grant requests must not be more than 20 percent of the organization’s annual budget in any one year, and the organization must have sufficient capacity to execute the proposal and measure results. Priority will be given to organizations that are at least two years old.
In addition to these criteria and other considerations, specific funding criteria for each of the three categories can be found online.
Visit the Shared Insight Fund’s website for complete program guidelines, individual RFPs, and application instructions.
