GriffinHarte Foundation Accepting Applications for Projects Promoting Civil Discourse

The GriffinHarte Foundation works to promote civil conversations about issues that divide Americans and are contentious and difficult to sort through. Such issues usually involve questions of fairness, equity, respect, identity, and the complex ways we are connected to other people.

In support of its mission, the foundation is inviting applications from individuals and agencies who are exploring civility and the ways that their efforts can promote and contribute to understanding of civility, civil discourse, and civil practices.

The foundation believes that communication is one of the key elements to understanding human differences and awards small grants of up to $1,000 in support of conversations, research, and scholarship that are grounded in questions/practices of civility and feminism; informed by a desire to define, explore, and advocate for social, political, and economic justice; and centered in an explicit recognition of the ways that people’s lives and communication are influenced by our identities; grounded in a commitment to alternative pedagogies and educational practices; and are informed by an explicit recognition of the ways identities, genders and sex, feminisms, civility, and civic engagement relate to social, political, and economic justice.
