EMPOWERING STUDENTS FOR ACHIEVEMENT
Project Forward Leap will host a panel discussion entitled “Empowering Students for Achievement” on December 3, 2014, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at The Union League of Philadelphia. The discussion will be opened with remarks from Philadelphia’s Mayor Michael Nutter; and panelists will include Dr. Irvin Scott, Deputy Director of Education, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; Patricia Humphries, Assistant General Counsel, GlaxoSmithKline; and Dr. Lorraine Dean, Social Epidemiologist, University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Melvin Allen, President and Co-Founder of PFL, will moderate as panelists review and explore effective strategies and partnerships that significantly boost outcomes for underserved students utilized by PFL, schools and other organizations. Among the strategies to be discussed are: early intervention, a steadfast commitment to rigorous studies at grade level or higher especially in the areas of science, technology and mathematics (STEM), co-curricular remediation as opposed to preremediation, and student development and leadership.
Check-in will begin at 10:30 AM at The Union League, 140 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia. Go to http://www.projectforwardleap.org to register and for additional information and updates.
