Job Summary
Coordinates, implements and monitors activities to enhance and align the preK to Grade 3 learning experience in identified high need and underserved communities, generally defined as neighborhoods characterized by high poverty and/or large proportions of elementary school students performing below grade level on standardized performance assessments. Creates and coordinates support and technical assistance between high-need elementary schools and local Head Start, PreK Counts and other preschool programs as well as informal child care providers (e.g. family care). Provides targeted direction and supplemental support for PreK to K vertical alignment in the highest need communities by working with early learning providers and Kindergarten teachers to ensure delivery of developmentally-appropriate kindergarten readiness-oriented learning for three and four year olds who are economically disadvantaged, English Language Learners or have other special needs.
Essential Functions: PreK to Grade 3 Alignment Specialty
- Works with Deputy Chief and other leadership to develop and implement PreK to Grade 3 early learning goals and objectives for the School District, using the Superintendent’s strategic plan as a guideline, with particular focus on supporting high need communities as defined above.
- Works in partnership with key internal and community based partners to develop agreement on and consistent standards for student expectations, supporting development of high quality, culturally responsive instruction, and developmentally appropriate environments PreK to Grade 3.
- Conducts needs assessment of PreK to Grade 3 staff, in order to supplement support and technical assistance to administrators of preschool providers and elementary schools in high need communities.
- Develops and manages systems and procedures for effective delivery of enhanced professional development and follow-up with preschool providers and elementary schools in high need communities based on targeted needs.
- Oversees supplemental grants to support PreK to Grade 3 alignment activities to support increased kindergarten readiness rates among high need children, and ensures that all activities are coordinated and executed in accordance with established timelines.
- Reviews and monitors the early learning performance and achievement among high need populations, including but not limited to children from low-income families, English Language Learners and students with special needs; and suggests supplemental supports for this populations.
- Works collaboratively with internal and external preschool providers on Kindergarten readiness, registration, entry and transition activities.
- Works with key internal and external partners to align expectations and academic content standards, instructional practices, behavior expectation and materials for research based, developmentally appropriate and effective teaching and learning of children PreK-3rd grade.
- Represents the District at community meetings and other stakeholder events
