Job Description
White-Williams Scholars is a non-for-profit organization that administers two programs:
(1) White-Williams Scholars? mission is to support high academic achievement in Philadelphia public high school students of limited financial resources in order to increase their opportunities for success; and
(2) Charles E. Ellis Grant and Scholarship program aims to assist functionally orphaned girls to continue, enrich and complete their secondary school education.
The Program Coordinator will serve as the "face" of White-Williams Scholars as it expands the pilot Peer Academic Development (PAD) program into a total of ten high schools. This position will be the second program coordinator on staff and will be responsible for PAD programming in five schools including West Philadelphia, Ben Franklin, University City, Strawberry Mansion and William Penn. The program coordinator will facilitate bimonthly meetings of scholars to discuss academic issues, learn leadership skills, and offer support and encouragement to each other. The program coordinator will also hold office hours at each school on a regular basis.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Student Programs
* Recruit students in Philadelphia public high schools and through other agencies
* Develop, implement and coordinate school-based programs
* Schedule and run college tours and visits for students from all high schools
* Schedule, plan and attend visits to participating schools for Board, staff, potential funding sources
* Schedule counselor lunches.
* Devise ways to make information about opportunities for students available and useful to counselors, school staff and students.
Alumni/Volunteer Relations
* Serve as contact with alumni/volunteers. Coordinate projects
* Coordinate and administer alumni survey every 5 years.
Evaluation
* Serve as liaison with evaluators as assigned
Public Relations
* Develop a list of students who would be appropriate and available to talk to media.
* Work with public relations consultant and alumni to arrange for media events.
Other related responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor?s Degree
* Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in working with groups of high school students
* Ability to work well in a team
* Excellent organizational skills
* Good computer skills
* Excellent communication skills including writing and public speaking
* Ability to work well with diverse constituencies including students, program staff, school staff, parents, alumni, community groups
* Experience in urban education a plus.
