PHILADELPHIA READS is a non-profit organization. Our mission is to strengthen the literacy skills of Philadelphia’s youngest and neediest school children by providing mentors and resources for in-school, after-school and summer programs.
We are currently looking for a full-time Program Coordinator with lots of energy to do the following:
Facilitate, coordinate and write curriculum for our award winning Summer READS program.
Plan with community partners
Develop theme
Choose and purchase materials
Train staff
Generally facilitate programming
Collate all reports and data gathered
Assist with our multiple area RIF (Reading Is Fundamental) programs.
Train staff for book distributions
Pack and ship books
Receive and collate RIF reports
Organize and run the PHILADELPHIA READS Book Bank at Martin Luther King High School.
Do book pick ups
Sort and shelve books on site
Work at Book Bank while teachers “shop
Solicit and train volunteers
Assist in all special events and programming as needed.
All candidates must be able to:
Carry out projects independently, including training other staff to assist, compiling and producing a variety of reports.
Manage several ongoing projects at once.
Be able to do the dirty work such as carrying and moving boxes
Work collaboratively with other staff and community partners.
Write clearly and effectively, both routine office correspondence and educational curriculum.
Have excellent knowledge of technology and be able to use it well. (Microsoft office suite, etc.)
Create and maintain communication tools including e-blasts, website, facebook page, newsletter, etc. with input from staff
Requirements:
« Bachelor’s Degree
« Education background in elementary education and curriculum creation is desirable.
« Background knowledge of children’s literature is desirable.
« Administrative or program coordination experience- two to three years of experience in administrative role preferred.
« Strong organizational and time management skills.
« Passion for improving literacy skills and outcomes for multi-ethnic, low-income students
« Comfortable with lifting and other physical activities such as carrying and moving boxes etc.
« Be able to work cooperatively with others.
