Description: Scribe Video Center, a Philadelphia-based non-profit media arts and education center, seeks a Program Associate . Scribe provides educational workshops in video, film, audio and time-based media production, and we sponsor production projects that explore community issues.
The Program Associate, a part time position,works with the Program Manager to plan, present and promote Scribe Video Center’s programs, including educational workshops, community productions and public screenings. Planning and implementing community outreach strategies for all our programs is a core responsibility of this position. A substantial part of this outreach work includes developing collaborations with Philadelphia area neighborhood organizations, as well as with teachers and administrators in the public and charter school systems.
Knowledge of the process of media making (video, film and radio) is an important attribute for the Program Associate. Other duties will include marketing, project administration, maintaining relationships with partnering organizations, and managing free-lance subcontractors and interns.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Works with the Program Manager to plan, present and promote all of Scribe Video Center’s programs from workshops, screenings and community productions.
2. Responsible for planning and executing outreach strategies to solicit applicants for Scribe’s community production programs, including Community Visions, Precious Places, and Documentary History Project for Youth.
3. Organizes and produces the Street Movies! neighborhood screenings, including solicitation of works, developing collaborations with hosting neighborhood sites, contracting screenings crew and producing on site events. (Street Movies! occurs primarily in August.)
4. Develops and maintains strategies for the promotion of Scribe activities and video works, including the development of publicity materials; writing of press releases and other copy; maintaining and updating website; social media updates; the distribution of direct mail and email promotions; and other web-based promotion.
5. Responsible for maintaining databases of community and press contacts
6. Preparing works produced through Scribe programs for distribution and exhibition by gathering releases, writing program descriptions, uploading information to website and promoting Scribe work to varied screening and broadcast venues.
7. Responsible for maintaining attendance records and assisting in compiling program statistics and documentation.
8. Opportunities to represent Scribe at professional conferences, panels and festivals within arts community and media arts fields.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Solid experience with community outreach and grassroots organizing
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong contacts within the Philadelphia neighborhood and charter school system
Excellent verbal,and written communication skills
Promotion and marketing skills, including social media outreach strategies.
Knowledge of the documentary videomaking process
Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite)
Able to do the physical work related to community screenings.
MUST be able to prioritize tasks, work independently and meet deadlines.
Valid driver’s license.
Desirable:
Working videomaker with experience producing/directing independent work
Experience curating/programming film screenings.
Experience of working in a non-profit arts organization
A commitment to progressive social change
Experience of web design.
Conversant in Spanish
HOURS: This position is posted as a part-time position (16 to 24 hours a week.)
